19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
